Working It

I hope you are having a good start to your week! This week's Overheard In The Office comes compliments of AG. AG has been a patient here for the last 13 years. In fact, I have pretty much seen him once a month over that whole time. I have also seen his three daughters off and on as well. Between the three girls, there has always been some combination of soccer or volleyball going - they are an active group. AG works at SIA (OK, a few too many acronyms going on here!). One thing that really caught my attention when I first started working on him was that no matter what amount of overtime he worked or which shift he was on, he would always do his best to make connections with his kids. As a working dad myself, I know that isn't always easy, and we only had two!

At this point, his oldest daughter is out on her own, the middle one is getting ready to head off to college, and number three is getting ready to go back to high school. When I saw him this last week, he had been working mandatory overtime at SIA and was going to be adding some additional shifts. We talked about the middle one heading away to school and I could tell he was really going to miss her.

I don't know that AG saw his commitments and sacrifices as anything unusual, but I did. Just like the rest of us, I know he has had bumps and bruises, successes and shortcomings over the years. But, one thing I have been able to see from a distance was his commitment to just Working It. I know he works hard and he works long, and I have seen the three reasons why, and I know he would tell you it is worth it. I couldn't agree more.

We have had the privilege of adjusting a lot of spines this last month and, while it is sometimes tiring, I never get tired of seeing and hearing the stories of the people who come in. A lot of them are like AG: people doing what they have to do for those they love. Right now the world is pretty upside down at times, but I encourage you to keep doing what you have to do. It means something to those you love and to those of us walking along side you as well!
